Aged Care
Aged care is conducted on a monthly basis at Chojwai Hall when all the HACC participants meet for activities. Staff conduct home visits when necessary. The health assessments, which are part of the Enhanced Primary Health Care package, are conducted to assess a person's mobility, memory, cognition, and their social, environmental and physical status. This entails a home visit of approximately 45 minutes duration, and is then followed up by a clinic visit with the doctor. There are benefits in that some time is spent examining client's lifestyle and environment, which would not happen normally. This helps locate possible problems in the future and to assist us in planning how to avoid them. return
GP Training Project
Working closely with the NQ Royal Australian College of General Practice in Townsville we provide placements for Trainee doctors by way of teaching posts for periods of 6-12 months. In cooperation with the Centre for General Practice & Rural Medicine of James Cook University School of Medicine, we also have registered "Cultural Mentors" who are available to assist the registrars to understand the culture of our community in which they are working. The mentors support the registrars to integrate into our community so that they are more likely to stay for the long term. return
Transport Service
We also provide a transportation service for our clients without vehicles, ensuring accessibility to the clinics. For those patients travelling to Cairns for hospital and specialist appointments, we request a donation of $10 for health care card holders/pensioners and $15 for others. We do prefer to know at least 2 days in advance for patients travelling to Cairns so that we can arrange transportation. return
