MISSION STATEMENT:
To provide a comprehensive primary health care service and to improve health and well being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Innisfail and surrounding communities
MAMU HEALTH SERVICE:
Mamu Health Service takes its name from MA:MU, the Johnstone River Tribe. The five clan groups of the tribe are :

Our Logo: The Barramundi has been adopted because these fish could be caught in abundance by the MA:MU Tribe at the junction of the North and South Johnstone Rivers where the township of Innisfail is situated in Johnstone Shire. Mamu Health Service was set up in 1990 by the indigenous community in and around the Innisfail Area to take over the management of the outreach medical service operated in Innisfail by Wuchopperen Health Service from Cairns .
Incorporated on May 1st 1990 as a public company limited by guarantee under the companies ( Queensland ) Code with the company name of MAMU Medical Service Limited. On January 16th 2002, MAMU had legally changed its name to Mamu Health Service Limited, thus signifying a more holistic /spiritual provision of healing rather than just a medical focus.
The constitution lays the purpose, rights, powers and liabilities of MAMU as a public company, and sets down the rules and regulations managed by the Board Of Directors. MAMU is an indigenous community controlled and managed organisation. The Board of Directors is elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the company, by the membership to be responsible for the management of MAMU. The Board of Directors consists of not more than (10) members. As per Constitution at the Annual General Meeting of the Company held in 1998, five(5) Directors retired in rotation of five(5) and five (5). Any person supporting MAMU's aims and objectives can apply to the Board to become of member of MAMU.
MAMU provides a primary health care service incorporating a bulk billing general health practice open to the public and part-time dental clinic, targeted health Screening and Indigenous health promotion activities. The organisation is an affiliated member of the Northern Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Alliance (NATSIHA)
MAMU generates funds from bulk billing through Medicare for patient services provided through its general medical practice, which covers the salary of the doctors, employed by Mamu. The main income is an annual grant from the Commonwealth Government Department of Health and Ageing provided under the Funding Agreement as agreed between the Department Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (OATSIH) and MAMU. MAMU and the (OATSIH) State office Staff negotiate on the specific terms and conditions of MAMU's annual operating grant.
